More on Those Awards

Thanks to an anonymous commenter, I've been inspired to do a little research into the Parents Choice Foundation Awards that I mentioned last week. It turns out PCF charges a sizeable entry fee for artists to even have their album considered. I got a quick and informative response to my initial questions from PCF, but I'm awaiting answers to some follow-up questions before posting further on this.

I don't want to take away from the artists who were honored in the Fall 2006 Audio Awards from PCF, but I think it's important to know some of the background on these awards, so I'm continuing to explore. Artists and reps (or any of the rest of you who have been involved with awards), what do you have to say? Feel free to comment here or email me privately. I'm curious to hear other perspectives.

And on a completely unrelated note, I'm looking for suggestions for a clever sticker to put on the back of the new mini-van. Send your ideas! If I choose yours, I'll send you a lovely prize - your choice of several kids/family DVD's. Respond by 10 pm (EST) Sunday!

I'm writing this anonymously, normally I wouldn't, but well... in case I ever actually want to apply for one of these... heheh... I've considered these kind of awards kind of a dubious thing in a sense... I'm not really sure what they're worth, ultimately, and it seems almost as though just about every other artist on CDBaby has some award or other, so then what's really the distinction? You know what I mean?

I'm not necessarily panning them, but I would like to hear more about them from other artists as far as what they consider the real value. Does it sell more CDs? Is it just something you just kind of "have" to do, being a kids artist?

Thanks for bringing this up, Amy.

Let me first say that the winners are beyond talented.

I don't like anything that I have to pay for regarding auditions, or reviews or even awards. It's not the money, it's the principal of it. It feels like, in a strange way, that perhaps you're "buying" your chances of having an award.

I had wanted to sign up for that but was very put off by the amount of money they charge. Of course the artists who win are wildly talented, but how fair is if other artists who don't have the money to join but are equally talented aren't in the competition?

Oddly enough, there's even a blogger site where you can give money towards getting your album looked at quicker. Strange...

We scraped together the cash and didn't win. I don't think we fit into their PC standards, but that's cool. People love our music and we're happy with how we do anyway. So, not everyone who pays, wins... But then we also didn't know we could have coughed up MORE cash to have it looked at sooner (better?). Where's that? Maybe we'll have a sponsor for our next cd and win big and rake in the dough!

Wow! Well, tangentially, the Oppenheims are free, I think....

A REVIEWER/BLOGGER site says if you give money to their site they will review your album quicker, it has nothing to do with the reward site - sorry if I wasn't clear on that.
